A Week in my Life as a Professional Figure Skater
Hi! If you are new here, my name is Rebecca and I am currently overseas in Germany working as a professional figure skater! Come along with me as I share a week in my life!
Day 1 – Monday
To start out this week… or at least this week that I am documenting, we have 3 ice shows today at 1, 3, and 5pm. Because our shows don’t start until later in the day, I have plenty of time in the morning to get ready! I typically start my day with a little bit of breakfast and journaling. Then I’ll take a few minutes to do my hair for the day, a slicked-back bun with colored hair extensions. Thankfully this hairstyle is quite simple so it does not take me too much time in the morning to do it. Lastly, with whatever time I have left I like to do a little work on my computer so I can feel ahead for the day!
And now it’s time to walk to the arena. The walk is not too far and quite refreshing if we are lucky to have some nice weather.
Once I arrive at the arena it’s time to start doing my makeup. This is one of the longer tasks of the morning so I make sure to leave plenty of time to get ready for the first show of the day.
Todays Shows
Show #1 is roughly 30 minutes long and then we have a long enough break to head over to lunch! The cafeteria is just a short walk from the arena within the park which is super convenient!
After lunch, we all get ready to perform our 2nd show of the day!
Between shows 2 and 3, we have another break where we are free to do as we please. Typically I will take this time to edit YouTube videos or do various other computer tasks. If I’m not working on my computer I may use this time to stretch, read, or just simply relax as I prepare for the last show.
Our last show of the day is at 5 pm and then it is time to head home! I usually take my makeup off at the rink before we catch the shuttle back home.
The night is usually quite uneventful consisting of making dinner, taking out my hair, and either relaxing or working one more time on my computer!
Day 2 – Tuesday
Today is our last 3 show day before our day off tomorrow which is exciting! Our show schedule is the same as yesterday with shows at 1, 3, and 5pm.
The day is quite similar to the previous with the schedule looking a bit like this…
- Wake Up
- Eat Breakfast
- Put up Hair
- Walk to Rink
- Put on Makeup
- Show 1
- Lunch
- Show 2
- Edit Break
- Show 3
Once we finally finished all 3 shows for the day, a friend and I decided to get sandwiches in the park to celebrate. It has been a long week+ of shows and we wanted to celebrate our hard work! The sandwiches were super delicious and a perfect way to end the day.
Day 3 – Wednesday (our day off!)
Today is our day off! We get one day off per week so I like to make the most of each day we have to explore! For this week’s day off a friend and I decided to explore the city of Frankfurt and watch another ice show called Holiday on Ice! I have not seen the show before, as they do not tour in the U.S. anymore, so I was definitely excited to go see it.
We made the few-hour trek all the way to Frankfurt and did a little sightseeing in Cologne along the way when switching trains.
Our first stop in Frankfurt was Romerberg. With the time we had before the show started, we did a little sightseeing, souvenir shopping, and finally ended up at a restaurant nearby for dinner. The town was super cute and we took so many cute photos! Definitely an adorable place to visit if you are in the area!
It was finally time to head over to the show! We walked over to the venue to enjoy the 2-hour long ice skating show before heading home for the night.
Day 4 – Thursday
Back to work today! Today’s schedule is a bit lighter with only 2 shows making it a nice transition back into the work week. Our shows today are at 2 and 5 pm. I did my usual morning routine before heading to the rink a little bit early for an extra skating session.
In the mornings before the show starts, we can use the ice to get a little extra practice if we would like. For today’s session, I just kept it low key getting my feet under me and filming some fun content for Instagram and YouTube. When that was finished it was time to head to lunch!
On two show days I typically eat lunch before the first show instead of in between shows. I quickly ate lunch and then headed back to the arena to start my makeup for the day. Show #1 went well and once again I spent the breaks between shows editing some fun videos and working on my laptop.
Day 5- Friday
The weather was foggy and a bit dreary and our show schedule was again 2 shows at 2 and 5pm. Other than another skate session again in the morning, the day was pretty uneventful and similar to the rest of this week.
Here are a few more show pictures to make up for the lack of excitement today.
Day 6- Saturday
Today we are back to our 3 show day schedule again!
I started the morning with my typical routine. Breakfast, journal, hair, computer work, then head over to the arena.
Our audiences today were busier than the last few days which is nice! It is always a treat when the crowd is into the show and reciprocating our energy from our performances!
The day was also quite similar to most of the days this week however instead of taking the shuttle home, I took the bus to the nearby city of Bruhl for a grocery run! It is conveniently just a short bus ride away but I still like to stock up on groceries for the week while I am there!
Day 7- Sunday
On the last day of this week in my life we are ending strong once again with 3 shows at…you guessed it… 1, 3, and 5.
On the walk to the rink this morning it was quite busy on the road which meant the park was probably going to be quite busy as well. It also started randomly snowing really hard out of nowhere while I was walking which made for a pretty, yet wet morning walk!
Our show today were indeed quite busy with 564, 774, and 883 people in attendance. It is not the most people we have ever had at the show, but it is higher than a few of the other days this week!
Today is costume wash day so after our last show of the day we put our costumes in the bin to be washed. Then I took my makeup off and packed up to head home.
Ending the Week
Although this is the end of sharing a small glimpse into what a typical week in my life looks like, there is still much more to come! Some days are more eventful than others, that is for sure, but in the end, I am so absolutely grateful that I am able to do this as my job! I am even more grateful to be able to share the journey with all of you! So stay tuned for many more posts and videos from this contract, as well as future contracts to come!
