Brenton Skating Plaza | Des Moines, Iowa

From November to March this beautiful rink right in the heart of Des Moines offers a wonderful experience for anyone in search of a great winter activity! Let me tell you more about it!

Location

Opened in 2006, Brenton Skating Plaza is a beautiful outdoor ice rink located right on the Principal River Walk in Des Moines, Iowa. From the rink you get a beautiful view of the city, some gorgeous bridges, and if you’re lucky maybe even a sunset over the buildings.

Cost and Admissions:

Adult admission is $10

Child (6-12) admission is $6

Senior (60+) admission is $6

Children under 5 are FREE

Punch Passes are $85 for 10 sessions (including skate rentals)

Skate Rental:

Skate rental is available for figure skates and hockey in a variety of sizes. Rentals are $5 on top of admission.

Around the rink, there are plenty of benches perfect for tying up your skates with mats that are safe to walk on with your skates.

Shoe check is available for $1/ pair.

Waivers:

To skate on the ice you must sign a waiver. To save time at your visit you can sign the online waiver before arriving!

The rink is typically open from November to March but the season may vary slightly depending on weather conditions.

Mon – Thurs – 5-9 pm

Friday – 5-11 pm

Saturday- 12-11 pm

Sunday – 11-5 pm

*There may be special hours on holidays! Be sure to double-check the hours on their website before your visit!

Weather Policies

• Warm Weather: 55° – 59° – Open at sundown | 60° – 65° – Closed for the day | Over 65° – Closed until ice has recovered
• Cold Weather: Forecast of temperatures under 5° or wind-chill below 0° for a majority of the open hours, the rink will close for the day.
• Snow: In the event of snow, the rink will be cleared and opened as soon as possible.

Ice Conditions

The ice is typically zammed after each 1hr 45 min session of ice skating.

Private Rentals

Want to rent out this awesome ice rink?! Brenton Skating Plaza is available to rent for all kinds of events, birthday parties, and more!

$250/hr (2-hour blocks)
 – Includes admission + skate rental for attendees
– Maximum number of attendees 210
